There’s something about a California evening that feels like it’s holding its breath golden light draped over the ocean, waves humming quietly in the background, and the kind of stillness that makes you want to press pause. That’s exactly what this Newport Beach engagement session with Ricky and Bri felt like. A little slice of calm. A celebration soaked in sun and sweetness. These two are tying the knot in Mexico later this year, but they wanted their engagement session to feel completely different, more spontaneous, more playful, more them. And oh, did we get that!

A Car, A Coastline, and A Whole Lot of Heart

We started our session with one very stylish third wheel: a vintage convertible that looked like it was plucked right out of a movie. Ricky behind the wheel, Bri barefoot and glowing, it was equal parts retro glam and soft romance. The kind of visual poetry you don’t forget. They didn’t need much direction. They leaned into the breeze, into each other, into this moment that wasn’t about posing but about being. You could feel how much they trusted one another the way he looked at her, the way she laughed at something only he could’ve said.

A Champagne Moment, Because Love Deserves to Be Toasted

Midway through, we popped a bottle of champagne. Not for the photos, but because it felt right. That’s how this entire session went easy, celebratory, intentional. Bri poured them both a glass, and they toasted by the car with the light slipping lower behind them. No pressure to perform, no worry about timelines. Just the two of them, soaking in the start of something new. And honestly? It was beautiful.

Sunset at the Shoreline During Their Newport Beach Engagement Session

As the sun softened, we made our way to the water. Shoes came off, the ocean welcomed them in. There’s a quiet intimacy that comes with walking the beach at sunset, like the world fades a little, just enough to remind you what really matters. They wrapped up in each other, hair tangled by the breeze, salt on their skin. The elegance of the first half of the shoot gave way to something quieter, more grounded. This was the part that felt like home!
